I got it Wednesday, I was out of town for Turkey day so I didn't install a OS yet, I'm gonna Install Tiny XP Rev 5 and Ultimate Ubuntu later today.
I'm sure Ultimate Ubuntu will have all the drivers without me having to use apt, its THE best distro on the planet IMVHO, if ya haven't tried it just GET IT!

    http://ubuntusoftware.info/ultimate/

In fact I think I'm gonna boot it up now with the Ultimate Ubuntu DVD, ya can run it live and I'm 99.9% sure it will find everything w/o a problem

And I still am driving the Saab my dad left me, I just can't pull the trigger yet to spend 30 grand or more for a truck, i will go around 20 grand maybe, I beat the shit out of cars, and this year cars beat the shit out of me

OK, It booted up just fine and so far it found everything from what I can tell, i plugged it into my router and I am on the net with it, I'm gonna see if i can get it to find my wireless..If so I'm gonna load in tiny XP rev 5 and then Ubuntu
I only got the 80 gig drive but thats really more than enough, i got a external HDD I can plug into it with tunes, movies and of course..PORN

    Update:
I just installed Tiny XP Rev 5 and ffs it runs like a raped ape, it even found the wireless, i gotta install the Nvidia drivers for XP and then I'm gonna install Ultimate Ubuntu , i cant wait to play Nexiux on this thing, it should give me at LEAST 300FPS with the eye candy on

Dunno I made it with some 18yr old high school dropout the other night. I bought her some french fries from Jack in the Box and one thing led to another.

I'm thinking of buying this one.

Prolly not very good for gaming, which is prolly good cause I gotta get work done.

I have to lug this thing along on the train and to-from offices, so I'm looking for about 3 lbs.

I would get it from emperorlinux.com and they'll set it all up in Linux with a Verizon wireless cellular card built-in to the chassis.

I may go with the one without the tablet, but I think i'll prolly stick w/ a thinkpad.

I can see why you would want that one for the portability, and frankly i just cant get into the tablet laptops but I do see where they would be handy for certain users.

So I got everything installed on the new one and just for the hell of it I did a battery test playing a DVD on each OS with a fully charged battery.
To my surprise XP won this one, it maybe because it's Tiny XP and it's so striped down it doesn't use any unnecessary resources, but the results I got with my old Laptop where the exact opposite, albeit it had XP Media Center in it and Ultimate Ubuntu.
Still battery life is pretty good all in all, about 4-5 hours, more if you are just doing word or some other boring shit.

It turns out Lenovo doesn't have the tablet in the resolution I want (1400x1050), so it's only in 1024x768. And it's about $1500 cheaper from Lenovo than emperorlinux, so I'm thinking of buying a cheaper laptop and then giving it to my wife and maybe get the one I want a year or so from now.

Here's the one I'm thinking about, and it's $699 at Fry's right now:

It's about $140 cheaper in store right now, and I think my wife will like it when I pawn it off on her.

Fry's has some incredibly cheap memory now in store. I think it's like $50 bucks for 4GB notebook memory or something ridiculous.

Where should I download tinyxp from, and what version do you use?

BTW, linux often does poorly on laptop battery test. It has to do with improper implementation of ACPI and APM. MS code implements the protocol incorrectly, but everyone designs their system for their broken method.

I think ppl working on the Linux kernel refuse to implement the broken MS implementation, and thus the linux kernel often can't take advantage of power-saving features. I'm not really sure why the linux devs are so stubborn on the issue tho.

    I got that laptop.

    Vista is pretty craptastically sluggish.

It was actually $699 with a free Epson Stylus R280 printer w/rebate.

I didn't get the extra memory cause they were out of the cheaper stuff, but I'm sure it'll go back on sale in a week or two and I'll pick some up then.

If anyone is interested it should run linux well, and here's the howto I'm gonna follow:

I'm hoping I can get the Verizon EVDO card working too, and then I'll be all set. But if not, not that big of deal for now.

I actually got everything working I think.

WiFi, ethernet, webcam, bluetooth, firewire, multimedia card reader, dvd-writer, modem, tv remote.

And it is blistering fast w/compiz (3d desktop) w/only 1 gig of ram.

Now, I can play gore and take a video of myself just like that video back when someone posted about OWNT. Don't know if anyone else remembers, but that was pretty funny and was what I was thinking when I saw myself on the webcam typing away.

I forgot to mention I also got very good printer for free w/ this purchase as well. What a deal!

I think the wife already wants one.

How does that GeForce Go 7150 work with games, I'm not counting Quake clones..Nex, Alien Arena, Open Arena etc....and ffs Gore is a Quake Wannabe.
I'm talking games that actually have a engine thats under 8 years old, Gore is 6 years old and the open source community has already surpassed what AMP I and Amp II will ever do.

Anyway, how does it run "stressful games"
I'm just curious cus for the price it may just be sweet for a media comp, does it have HDMI out?
Sorry I didn't look at all the specs, feeling lazy tonight .

I haven't loaded any games on it yet. I could put Doom3 on it and see.

It doesn't have HDMI out, only a VGA out and an S-Video out, and firewire.

Forgot to mention that it has a mic built-in to the screen for the webcam to do conferencing, and has altec-lansing speakers.
