Well first of all no one would have money to buy new cars on top of the strain many families are are already putting up with so that's already a bad idea. ON TOP OF THAT The government would have to fork over trillions so to speak to afford purchasing these cars from their owners, which would put the country further in the hole. This would then cause a surge in need of transportation, boosting the need for public transportation by thousands of percent in every section of the country, which would cost many more billions to supply. Then people can't get to work or get fired because they don't show up, then they lose even more money.
