Duno, I generally disagree with that. It IS a great deal more useful than the kindle, if anything, because of the app store. You can watch movies on it (granted you have to go through iTunes for them), play games (again, not a lot of iPad-optimized games - but some work fine whether you play on the iPhone or the iPad), and read books in color. My thinking is I already have an iPhone, so why would I need this thing anyway. I don't read books on devices and I don't really care about tablet style netbooks regardless of how cool they are.
I DO see why they put the iPhone OS on it and where they are going with it. Without getting into the technical stuff (there are plenty of articles on this by now, like this pretty interesting blog about it) there are a LOT more iPhone users than there are OS X users. The learning curve for an iPhone user getting an iPad is pretty much nothing...so from a sales standpoint, that's pretty good (even with some people like me saying "uh, I have an iPhone, so I don't need that...").
It would be cool to see Amazon get on the ball and make a better Kindle. It's sort of pathetic the way it is now, I think. They can go just as far as Apple can due to their MP3 store, movie rental/purchasing store, etc.

how is the kindle pathetic? it performs it's main function perfectly. plus, im already tired of ipad and kindle comparisons. kindle=ebook reader. ipad = gimped tablet computer. reading books on the ipad will suck just like reading books on any computer screen sucks. eye strain gets pretty rough after a while. there isnt any eye strain with eink.

Duno I'd rather spend $500 on a kindle than $1000 on apple's model known as the iPad
well you can't expect new technology to be cheap. you must be high to ever think your going to get anything with a 10" display for $100. they know most people are willing to pay more so they charge more. the price will drop with time obviously but i doubt you will ever get the DX for $100. the ipad will in no way negatively effect ereaders sales. the books are on average $5 more each, thats 50% more friend. itunes store wont have the selection of B&N or Amazon. Amazon is paying 70% of sales to the publishers. even if apple matches that i dont see many publishers jumping ship to go to a smaller market. these are the reasons the ipad is not going to be successful as an ereader. shit screen, shit selection of books, and it's overpriced. it's going to fail as a tablet computer because you cant multitask and it's capacitive touch. trust me it sounds good to use your finger as a replacement for the mouse but it fucking blows in all reality. this things fail is like an onion, it has several layers.
Right, so how is the iPad so overpriced?Originally Posted by Darkspoon
I don't really think it's main intention is to be an ebook reader or a tablet in the traditional sense. I do think it's good for watching movies right now. Maybe in the future it'll be able to do more as better applications are released that you would normally see on the desktop, which is the way I think Apple would like things to go. Right now I don't see a whole lot of reason to buy it if you have an iPhone and don't care to watch movies with it.
It's hard to have a discussion about anything when you shit out hyperbole. The cheapest iPad is $500.Originally Posted by Diddlez
